Al Gore

The Rock HotelAl Gore

Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and environmental activist, is renowned for his tireless work in raising awareness about climate change. His commitment to environmental issues has made him a respected figure worldwide, notably through his involvement in the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," which played a significant role in educating the public about global warming.

On 4th October 2012 Gibraltar hosted the "Thinking Green" conference to elevate its environmental profile.

Gore was one of the two keynote speakers. While Al Gore is a prominent figure in environmental activism and has certainly contributed to the “green” movement, the “Thinking Green” initiative by the Department of the Environment, Climate Change & Sustainability of the HM Government of Gibraltar. His participation certainly added a significant value to the event and helped raise awareness about environmental issues. Al Gore has described Gibraltar as “an example for the rest of the world”. Mr Gore encouraged Gibraltarians to speak up about climate change, deepen their commitment to reducing their carbon footprints, and to not give up on solutions to the world's crisis. Gore didn't make any press appearances, nor did he give interviews. However, he did respond to around ten questions from the audience, among them questions from schoolchildren.  And he ended his keynote speech with some encouraging words for Gibraltar, describing the Rock as an example to the world, with a large part to play in history.

At the end of the conference and meetings, Al Gore returned to Rock Hotel for a well-deserved rest after his speech.
