Peter O'Toole was an illustrious Irish-British actor known for his electrifying performances on stage and screen, most famously as T.E. Lawrence in the epic film "Lawrence of Arabia. His portrayal in this epic film earned him international acclaim and an indelible place in film history. 

On the 6th of July 1962, during a break from the demanding filming of "Lawrence of Arabia" in Morocco, Peter O'Toole and co-star Omar Sharif made a memorable journey to Gibraltar aboard the Mons Calpe. 

The highlight of their visit was immortalized in the Mons Calpe logbook, where both O'Toole and Sharif left their signatures. This gesture not only commemorated their visit but also serves as a historical artefact, linking the iconic figures of cinema to the storied geography of Gibraltar. Their time here may have been brief, but it offered them a momentary escape and perhaps a chance to reflect on the monumental work they were part of—a film that would go on to win seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Peter O’Toole’s performance in “Lawrence of Arabia” is one of his most celebrated roles. In the film, O’Toole plays the role of T. E. Lawrence, an English officer who successfully united and led diverse, often warring, Arab tribes during World War I to fight against the Turks.
