Kaiane Loise Aldorino Lopez, is a Gibraltarian politician and beauty queen who won Miss World 2009. From 2017 to 2019, she held the ceremonial position of Mayor of Gibraltar, after previously serving as Deputy Mayor since 2014.
After being crowned Miss World on 12th December 2009, the first ever from Gibraltar, she received a hero's welcome upon her return to the territory.
Her arrival was celebrated with a parade on Main Street, mirroring the welcome that Diana, Princess of Wales, and Prince Charles received during their honeymoon visit to Gibraltar. She stayed at the hotel on 19th December 2009, and enjoyed her stay here: “I want to take the opportunity to thank all the staff for the excellent service and kindness throughout my stay”. Aldorino's impact extends beyond her beauty queen title. She has dedicated herself to charitable works, particularly for children and animal charities. Notably, she donated $10,000 received from the Miss World Organization to purchase essential items for St. Martin’s School for Special Needs and the Rainbow Children’s Ward at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Gibraltar. This act of generosity highlighted her commitment to giving back to her community. Throughout her time in office, Aldorino worked to maintain and enhance cross-frontier relations, particularly with nearby municipalities in Spain. She recognized the importance of maintaining good relationships with Gibraltar's neighbours for the benefit of daily life and community cohesion on both sides of the frontier. After her term as Mayor, Aldorino continued to serve Gibraltar as a Public Relations Officer for the Government of Gibraltar.
She remained a prominent figure in promoting Gibraltar, its culture, and its interests on the global stage, as well as continuing her work with charities close to her heart.
