Al Gore

Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and environmental campaigner, is widely recognised for his work raising awareness of climate change, particularly through the documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

On 4th October 2012, Gibraltar hosted the “Thinking Green” conference, an initiative aimed at strengthening the territory’s environmental profile.

Al Gore was one of the keynote speakers at the event, organised by the Department of the Environment, Climate Change & Sustainability of HM Government of Gibraltar. His presence added weight to the conference, where he encouraged the audience to take an active role in addressing climate change. During his talk, he described Gibraltar as “an example for the rest of the world” and urged continued commitment to reducing environmental impact. Although he did not give press interviews, he engaged directly with attendees, answering questions, including those from local schoolchildren, before concluding his speech with a message of encouragement and responsibility.

Following the conference, Al Gore returned to The Rock Hotel, where he stayed after his engagement on the Rock.
