Gloria Gaynor

Gloria Gaynor, the American singer best known for her hit I Will Survive, rose to international fame in the 1970s with a voice and stage presence that defined the disco era. The song became a lasting anthem of resilience, securing her place as a major figure in global music.

On 18th November 1988, Gloria Gaynor visited Gibraltar, choosing the Rock as a quiet retreat away from the spotlight.

During her stay, she selected The Rock Hotel for its calm setting, spending several days in Gibraltar focusing on rest and reflection. Her visit contrasted with the high energy of her performances, offering a more private moment during a career marked by international success. In 1980, I Will Survive earned her a Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording, the only year the category was awarded, further cementing its place in music history.

Gaynor’s time in Gibraltar reflects a more personal side of her journey, with the Rock providing a setting for pause within a career defined by endurance, influence and lasting cultural impact.
