James Cracknell OBE is a British rowing champion and double Olympic gold medallist, recognised for his achievements at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Beyond rowing, he has built a reputation as an endurance athlete and campaigner, taking on challenges that test both physical and mental limits.
His connection to Gibraltar spans both public engagement and endurance sport, including his involvement in the region as a political candidate in October 2013.
Cracknell also reached Gibraltar on 27th February 2008 as the final stage of a 1,400-mile cycling challenge for Sport Relief, travelling through France and Spain to complete the journey on the Rock. The challenge highlighted both his resilience and his commitment to raising funds and awareness for charitable causes. During his later political involvement, he expressed support for Gibraltar, particularly in relation to economic concerns and cross-border challenges.
His time in Gibraltar reflects a broader pattern in his career, combining sport, public service and personal challenge, with the Rock forming part of that journey.
