Prince Michael of Kent, a member of the British Royal Family and cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, is known for his charitable work, military affiliations and interest in international relations, particularly between Britain and Russia.
He visited Gibraltar on 17th October 2014 for a military working visit, taking part in a series of official and civic engagements.
The visit began with an arrival ceremony at HM Naval Base, where he met senior members of British Forces Gibraltar, including the Commander, Chief of Staff and Commanding Officer of the Gibraltar Regiment. As Commodore-in-Chief of the Maritime Reserve, Prince Michael carried out a number of military engagements, including inspecting the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and Band. A 21-gun Royal Salute marked the occasion. He later attended a reception at Grand Battery House, hosted by the Government of Gibraltar and attended by local officials and dignitaries.
