A true food allergy causes an immune system reaction that affects numerous organs in the body. It can cause a range of symptoms and severe reactions. In contrast food intolerance symptoms are generally less serious. The most frequent requests that we receive in the hotel are related to gluten free products (celiac disease) and Vegan (no animal products) or lactose intolerance.
At Breakfast we provide a range of gluten free breads as well as cereals and even sausages. We can also prepare gluten free items for our guests to enjoy our iconic afternoon tea including freshly made finger sandwiches. Due to the current shortages in the supply of gluten free flour, despite our efforts, we are unable to guarantee that we will be able to prepare gluten free pastries and scones. Pastries with pasteurised egg and fruit as well as alternatives to gluten free flour such as corn flour can be prepared on request. We believe in ingredient transparency and carefully label our menus and buffets, highlighting the gluten free or vegetarian dishes on offer.
The most popular food sensitive requests are for lactose free products and for these we provide soya milk and lactose free milk which is almond based.
The trend of vegetarianism, be it vegans or the less radical lactose vegetarians are on the increase and we see this constantly not only from our individual guests but also when catering for private functions and weddings.
